“We need to embrace the reputation Penzance is getting as a plastic-free town while it’s such a big topic in the press. Sometimes I feel that we lose out to places like St Ives, Falmouth and Padstow, but this is a great opportunity to create a really unique selling point that we can all be proud of.

“There are over 10,000 fish and chip shops in the UK so if I can show that it’s possible to reduce single-use plastic it could have a big impact overall. For businesses who are hesitant to sign up, I would encourage them to think about their triple bottom line which puts equal importance on environmental and community benefits as well as financial performance”
